Aegean Shipping Management has advanced its fleet renewal strategy with the naming ceremony of its new tanker, M/T Green Liberty, at the COSCO Yangzhou Shipyard in China earlier this week.
The event marks a tangible step in the company's modernization efforts, adding a new vessel to its operational roster amid a broader industry trend of aggressive newbuilding activity.
The delivery comes as the global crude tanker order book has reached unprecedented levels.
According to maritime analytics firm Signal Ocean, the order book hit an all-time high of 630 vessels at the end of the first half of 2026, surpassing the previous record set in 2008.
This surge in new capacity suggests that major operators are positioning themselves for long-term demand growth, even as short-term geopolitical pressures complicate trade routes.
