Badiur Rahman has been elected chairman of Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC, the lender confirmed.

The vote took place at the bank's 464th emergency board meeting, finalizing the leadership structure for the reconstituted board.

The election follows a period of regulatory oversight after Bangladesh Bank intervened in the lender's governance.

The central bank previously mandated the formation of a new board comprising representatives from the bank's founding sponsors, aiming to stabilize operations and restore institutional credibility.

This development caps a week of significant activity for the Dhaka-listed lender.

The reconstituted board held its first session on Tuesday, chaired by Khwaja Shahriar, before moving to appoint a permanent chairman.
