Bangladesh Bank has extended the deadline for commercial banks to resolve disciplinary proceedings against their officials and employees.

The central bank issued a circular on Sunday, adjusting the timeline to ensure compliance with the Bangladesh Labour Rules, 2015.

The move brings the regulator's internal enforcement schedule in line with statutory labour requirements.

By extending the window, the central bank aims to provide financial institutions with sufficient time to conduct due process while maintaining oversight of staff conduct.

This development occurs as Bangladesh Bank continues to implement an 18-month strategic plan designed to address the country's growing non-performing loan (NPL) crisis.

The central bank's governor has previously outlined this initiative as a comprehensive effort to clean up the banking sector, which has been weighed down by bad loans and governance issues.
