A proposal to shorten Bangladesh Bank's monetary policy announcement cycle from six months to three was raised at the first meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on finance, planning, and industry on Saturday.
The suggestion, put forward by committee member Hasnat, aims to increase the frequency of policy guidance in a rapidly evolving economic environment.
Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiqur Rahman responded positively to the idea, describing it as a "very good suggestion" during the proceedings.
The potential shift to a quarterly cycle would mark a significant change in the central bank's communication strategy.
Currently, the bank releases its monetary policy framework twice a year.
Moving to a three-month cadence would allow policymakers to react more swiftly to inflationary pressures and liquidity conditions, providing markets with more frequent signals on interest rate trajectories and credit availability.
