Bangladesh's two largest garment industry associations have formally demanded an uninterrupted supply of compressed natural gas (CNG) to filling stations serving the country's apparel factories.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) issued the joint appeal to prevent production disruptions that could jeopardize export commitments.
The call for reliable energy access comes as the sector faces mounting operational pressures.
Garment manufacturers rely heavily on CNG for steam generation and power; any interruption in supply forces factories to switch to more expensive diesel generators or halt production entirely.
The associations argue that consistent gas flow is critical to maintaining the competitiveness of Bangladesh's apparel industry, which remains the backbone of the national economy.
This development adds to a growing list of structural challenges facing the sector.
