NRBC Bank PLC and Bangladesh Bank have launched a public awareness campaign in Chattogram to accelerate the adoption of the country's national interoperable QR payment system.

The "Bangla QR Fair 2026" was inaugurated by Md Hanif Miah, executive director and head of the Bangladesh Bank Chattogram Office, marking a significant step in the central bank's strategy to expand digital financial inclusion beyond the capital city.

The event in Chattogram follows a series of high-profile initiatives aimed at normalizing cashless transactions across Bangladesh.

Earlier this year, Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, adviser to the prime minister on finance and planning affairs, publicly demonstrated the use of Bangla QR through a Dutch-Bangla Bank mobile application in Dhaka.

That demonstration highlighted the government's top-down support for the interoperable network, which allows customers to scan QR codes regardless of their bank or mobile financial service provider.

The push for broader adoption is being mirrored by other private sector players.
