Bank Mandiri has activated global contactless payment capabilities on the Jakarta MRT network, allowing passengers to tap in and out using Visa and Mastercard credit cards equipped with payWave technology.

The implementation relies on EMV (Europay, Mastercard, Visa) standards, ensuring compatibility with international cards rather than limiting access to domestic debit schemes or proprietary transit tokens.

Bank Mandiri has recently emphasized strengthening economic resilience for Indonesian families, migrant workers, and small business owners through enhanced digital payment access.

This infrastructure upgrade removes a friction point for foreign visitors and expatriates in Indonesia’s capital, who previously faced barriers when attempting to use global credit cards for public transit.

By integrating directly with the MRT’s fare collection system, Bank Mandiri is positioning its card portfolio as a primary tool for daily urban mobility, not just retail spending.

The move aligns with the lender’s broader strategy to expand its financial inclusion ecosystem.
