Bank Negara Malaysia is moving to install an independent governance framework for MediAsas, the central bank's digital health financing platform.

Deputy Governor Aznan Abdul Aziz announced the initiative, stating the oversight body will continuously review the platform's affordability and structural design to ensure it meets consumer needs.

The move signals a shift toward stricter regulatory scrutiny of the digital lending product, which has been a key component of Malaysia's financial inclusion strategy.

By establishing continuous review mechanisms, the central bank aims to prevent potential mis-selling or pricing issues that could arise as the platform scales.

MediAsas allows consumers to finance medical expenses through a digital interface, often linked to their bank accounts.

The introduction of independent oversight suggests regulators are prioritizing long-term sustainability and consumer protection over rapid expansion.
