Bank of America has announced plans to acquire MDSec Consulting Ltd, a UK-based information security firm, in a move designed to strengthen its internal cyber defense capabilities.

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, according to Channel NewsAsia.

This acquisition signals a tangible shift in how major financial institutions are addressing the escalating threat of cyber attacks, moving from purely defensive posturing to active capability acquisition.

The deal comes as Bank of America continues to expand its global footprint, recently bolstering its mergers and acquisitions advisory team in Paris to compete for top-tier deal volume.

While the Paris expansion focused on revenue generation through advisory services, the MDSec acquisition targets operational resilience.

For investors, this underscores the bank’s dual strategy: growing its wealth and investment management arms while simultaneously hardening its core banking infrastructure against sophisticated digital threats.
