Iraq's Basrah Heavy crude has posted a significant weekly gain, rising more than 16% over the past seven days.

The sharp appreciation marks a decisive turnaround for the country's primary export benchmark, which had previously lagged behind major global oil grades.

5%, erasing a steep decline that had pushed the price down $2.

Basrah Heavy added $1.47 per barrel in the final trading session, closing the week with a 2.28% daily increase that capped the broader rally.

The rebound follows a period of volatility for the Iraqi benchmark, which had seen prices dip sharply earlier in the week.

On Wednesday, the grade surged more than 3.5%, erasing a steep decline that had pushed the price down $2.75 to $47.73 per barrel just a day prior.

This intraday reversal helped anchor the weekly recovery, as buying interest returned to the heavy crude complex.
