Officials argue that the basin’s potential to deliver cheap, plentiful energy is a key driver for economic expansion in the region, particularly as global capital flows into digital infrastructure.
The territory has formally urged the federal Albanese administration to prioritize funding for a major pipeline connecting the Beetaloo Basin to the east coast.
This infrastructure link is seen as vital to realizing the commercial potential of the gas resource, which has faced regulatory and political headwinds in recent years.
Without the pipeline, the gas remains stranded, limiting its ability to support new industrial load.
Twelve data centre developers are currently in active discussions with the Northern Territory government regarding new infrastructure projects.
