BMW has confirmed it will eliminate several thousand jobs in Germany by the end of 2027 through a voluntary redundancy programme.

The Munich-based automaker reached an agreement with employee representatives on the measures, a company spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Handelsavisen previously reported that BMW Group is eliminating 8,000 positions and overhauling its executive leadership as part of this campaign.

The announcement provides the first official confirmation of the scale of workforce reductions previously reported by German business media.

The voluntary nature of the cuts suggests BMW is attempting to manage the transition with minimal industrial action, though the final headcount reduction will depend on uptake among eligible staff.

This development is part of a broader restructuring effort spearheaded by incoming CEO Milan Nedeljkovic.
