State-owned Canara Bank reported a 2% year-on-year increase in net profit for the first quarter of fiscal 2027, reaching ₹4,856 crore.

The figure compares with ₹4,752 crore in the same period last year, marking a modest expansion in the lender's bottom line.

Karur Vysya Bank recently posted a record quarterly net profit of ₹756 crore, up 45% year-on-year, driven by robust growth in its lending book.

The profit growth was underpinned by a stronger top line, with net interest income (NII) rising 13% year-on-year.

The divergence between the 13% growth in interest income and the 2% rise in net profit suggests that operating costs or provisions may have absorbed much of the revenue gain, a common dynamic in India's public sector banks as they navigate competitive lending rates.

The results arrive as other Indian lenders report mixed performance.
