A Chevron-owned oil tanker, the Yasa Polaris, was struck by a drone off the coast of Russia in the Black Sea.

The vessel was engaged in transporting crude for the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), a critical infrastructure network responsible for moving oil from Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan to the Mediterranean.

The incident marks a significant escalation in maritime security risks for energy shipments in the region.

The attack comes at a time when the CPC is scheduled to export approximately 1.6 million barrels per day of its blend crude in July.

Any disruption to these flows could tighten regional supply balances and impact global crude benchmarks, particularly given the consortium's role in diversifying export routes away from traditional Russian corridors.

The targeting of a vessel linked to a major Western energy company like Chevron highlights the broadening scope of geopolitical risks in the Black Sea.
