Cuba’s government has officially confirmed a significant increase in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and manufactured cooking gas, following unofficial reports circulated earlier this month.
The state-run media outlet 14ymedio reported that the cost of standard LPG cylinders, commonly known as "balitas," has risen from 213 to 350 Cuban pesos.
Additionally, the price for manufactured cooking gas has jumped from 2.50 to 4.97 pesos per cubic meter.
The price hikes coincide with the removal of the sales cap on rice, a staple food previously subject to strict controlled and released sales quotas.
This dual adjustment marks a continuation of the government's efforts to reduce subsidies and align domestic prices closer to market realities, albeit within a tightly controlled economy.
These changes add to the financial pressure on Cuban households, which have faced repeated cost-of-living increases in recent months.
