Enaon, the Italian natural gas distributor, has announced a €1 billion investment program aimed at expanding Greece’s gas distribution network.

The plan allocates more than €640 million specifically to extending the grid into areas currently without connection, while the remaining capital is designated for modernizing infrastructure to accommodate renewable gases such as biomethane.

The move underscores a strategic shift toward integrating low-carbon fuels into existing distribution systems.

By preparing the network for biomethane, Enaon is positioning itself to meet evolving regulatory standards and demand for greener energy sources in the Mediterranean region.

This infrastructure upgrade is critical for maintaining the relevance of natural gas networks as the energy mix transitions.

The investment follows a broader trend of European energy companies committing capital to grid modernization and expansion.
