Equity Bank Kenya has appointed Carole Kariuki to its board of directors.

Kariuki, currently a director at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), brings more than two decades of private-sector leadership experience to the lender's governing body.

The appointment marks a strategic shift toward strengthening corporate governance and market oversight within the bank's executive structure.

Kariuki's background at the NSE provides the board with direct insight into capital market dynamics and regulatory compliance, areas of increasing scrutiny for East African financial institutions.

This move comes as Kenya's banking sector navigates a complex macroeconomic environment.

The World Bank has recently emphasized comprehensive anti-corruption reforms as a prerequisite for new lending packages to Kenya, highlighting the growing importance of governance metrics for international financial support.
