European underground gas storage (UGS) levels are running 16.8% below the same date last year, according to data cited by Russia’s Gazprom.
The state-owned producer highlighted the widening seasonal gap on Tuesday, pointing to insufficient injection rates to close the deficit before the onset of winter demand.
Gazprom has previously warned that European facilities may fail to reach the critical 75% fill level by the start of the heating season.
The storage shortfall reinforces the structural tightness in the European gas market.
With fill rates lagging historical norms, the risk of a supply crunch during the heating season remains elevated.
This dynamic continues to support prices, limiting downside potential for the Dutch TTF benchmark despite broader macroeconomic headwinds.
