European underground gas storage (UGS) facilities have crossed the 55% fill threshold, marking a technical recovery from the sub-50% levels seen earlier in the month.

However, the current stockpile remains the lowest at this time of year in five years, highlighting the persistent structural deficit in the continent's energy reserves.

According to calculations by TASS based on Gas Infrastructure Europe data, total net injections since the beginning of July are 19% lower than the same period last year.

This slower pace of filling underscores the challenges facing European gas markets as they attempt to rebuild stocks ahead of the winter heating season.

The development follows a volatile period for European gas inventories, which had dipped to 49.09% in early July before recovering to 53% and now 55%.

While the recent climb provides some relief, the overall volume remains well below historical averages, keeping supply risk elevated.
