The Federal Reserve has initiated a comprehensive review of its inflation measurement framework, marking one of the first major policy shifts under new Chair Kevin Warsh.

According to Handelsblatt, Warsh has assembled a team of prominent experts and established five dedicated working groups tasked with redefining how the central bank calculates and interprets consumer price trends.

The move represents a structural departure from the Fed's traditional reliance on lagging monthly indicators.

Instead, the central bank is exploring the integration of high-frequency, granular data streams to gain a more immediate and precise read on U.S. consumer prices.

This includes potential partnerships with major retailers to access real-time sales data, allowing policymakers to detect inflationary pressures as they emerge rather than weeks after the fact.

For market participants, the overhaul introduces a new variable in the interpretation of monetary policy.
