Mykhailo Fedorov, the former Ukrainian defense minister, has declined all potential new government positions offered by President Volodymyr Zelensky, with the sole exception of returning to the defense ministry.
Sources close to the former minister told the portal New Voice that Fedorov is unwilling to accept any other role, including a position within the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) that would have granted him direct access to the president’s inner circle.
The development marks a significant setback for Zelensky’s ongoing efforts to restructure the Ukrainian government.
Previous reports indicated that Fedorov had already turned down offers to serve as an advisor to the president and to take on the role of prime minister.
By limiting his acceptance to the defense portfolio, Fedorov signals a continued focus on military affairs rather than broader political or security council responsibilities.
This refusal adds to the political instability risks previously highlighted by protests over Fedorov’s initial dismissal.
