Flogas has entered into a renewable gas agreement with bio-waste management firm College Group, securing an annual offtake of 26 GWh of renewable biomethane.

The deal represents a concrete step in the Irish gas distributor’s strategy to diversify its supply mix with low-carbon alternatives as regulatory pressure on fossil fuels intensifies.

Under the terms of the arrangement, College Group will produce the biomethane from organic waste streams, injecting it into the national grid via Flogas’s infrastructure.

This type of corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) structure is becoming increasingly common in the European energy sector, allowing waste management companies to monetize their biogas production while providing utilities with certified renewable volumes to meet sustainability mandates.

The agreement underscores the growing intersection between waste management and energy markets.

For College Group, the contract provides long-term revenue certainty for its renewable gas projects, potentially improving its credit profile and investment capacity.
