Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Yiadom Boasiako Asiama opened the 131st Monetary Policy Committee meeting on Monday, signaling that the cedi has remained broadly stable against major trading partners.

In his opening remarks, the governor noted that global economic developments have largely unfolded in line with the committee’s expectations from its previous session.

The comments arrive as market participants brace for the central bank’s latest policy decision.

The Ghana Bankers Association has previously indicated that the MPC is expected to maintain its benchmark monetary policy rate, a view that appears to be gaining traction among local financial institutions.

The governor’s emphasis on exchange rate stability suggests that the committee remains focused on containing inflationary pressures without resorting to aggressive tightening.

Handelsavisen notes that the Bank of England recently maintained its benchmark rate at 3.75%, marking the fourth consecutive meeting of inaction.
