Ghana’s National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has raised the minimum price floor for fuel, setting petrol at GH¢ 13.28 and diesel at GH¢ 14.35 effective July 16.

The adjustment marks a direct pass-through of elevated international crude costs to the domestic market, overriding earlier projections from the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers that prices would fall.

The move underscores the persistent pressure on African fuel markets as global benchmarks remain firm.

While local stakeholders had anticipated a reprieve from high costs, the regulator’s decision signals that the floor for retail pricing has shifted upward in line with global supply dynamics.

The increase applies to the minimum price floor, meaning retailers can charge more but not less, effectively locking in higher costs for consumers and transport operators.

This development aligns with a broader trend of fuel price hikes across emerging markets this week.
