Ghana is moving to establish a regular cadence for national employment statistics, with Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson directing the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) to develop a methodology for publishing quarterly employment rate data.
The directive aims to provide policymakers and investors with more frequent and granular insights into the labor market, which has historically been measured through less frequent surveys.
The push for quarterly employment figures complements existing statistical modernization efforts in the country.
Forson has previously instructed the GSS to prioritize the rebasing of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures, with completion targeted for 2027.
These updates are designed to better reflect the current structure of Ghana’s economy and improve the accuracy of macroeconomic indicators used by the government and international creditors.
More frequent employment data will allow for a more responsive assessment of economic recovery and the impact of fiscal and monetary policies on job creation.
