Gold prices retreated in early trading as a firmer US dollar weighed on the precious metal.

Comex gold futures for August delivery traded marginally lower at $4,031.70 per ounce in New York, reflecting renewed pressure from currency strength.

In India, the yellow metal followed the global trend.

Gold futures on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) for August delivery fell by ₹181, or 0.13%, to close at ₹1,41,600 per 10 grams.

The decline marks a continuation of the softening trend seen in recent sessions, where spot demand has failed to provide sufficient support.

The move comes after a period of volatility in Indian gold markets.
