Google has officially launched the Nuvem transatlantic submarine cable system, a major infrastructure project connecting Portugal, Bermuda, and the United States.
The launch ceremony took place at Lisbon's Oceanarium on Tuesday, marking the operational start of the 7,000 km link that was first announced by the tech giant in 2023.
The Nuvem system is designed to enhance transatlantic data capacity and reduce latency between Europe and North America.
By routing through Bermuda, the cable provides a resilient alternative to existing direct routes, supporting the growing demand for cloud computing and AI-driven data transfers.
