Guyana’s Gas-to-Energy transmission network has reached 99% completion, bringing the country closer to a major structural shift in its power generation mix.

The infrastructure, designed to carry electricity generated at the Wales power plant across the Demerara River, is set to supply homes, businesses, and industries with cleaner, more reliable energy.

This milestone follows months of construction aimed at reducing the nation's heavy reliance on imported diesel for electricity.

The near-finalization of the grid underscores the accelerating pace of Guyana’s energy transition, a key component of its broader economic development strategy.

By switching to domestic natural gas, the government aims to lower power costs, reduce carbon emissions, and free up foreign exchange previously spent on fuel imports.

The project is part of a wider regional trend where emerging economies are leveraging domestic hydrocarbon resources to stabilize and modernize their power grids.
