Kaieteur Sports – Guyana's top-ranked 83kg powerlifter, Dominic Tyrrell, recently attended the SilentWorker Switzerland Meet, held on 18 and 19 July 2026. The competition formed part of the SilentWorker Power Series' international "Prime Time" team event between Team Viper and Team Runetech. The series describes itself as the first international amateur powerlifting circuit, with the leading lifters from each stage qualifying for the season finale in France.

Tyrrell completed all nine of his attempts over the two days of competition. He opened with a 275kg (606lb) squat, setting a new Guyana national record in the 83kg class. The lift surpassed his previous national mark by 2.5kg and improved his competition personal best by 5kg.
He followed with a 170kg (375lb) bench press, another personal best, moving to within 2.5kg of Guyana's national bench press record, which he hopes to challenge again later this year.

His competition concluded with a 340kg (750lb) deadlift, only 2.5kg below his lifetime competition best of 350kg. That lift secured a total of 785kg (1,731lb), establishing a second national record by improving his previous Guyana total record by 10kg. It also equaled the largest single-meet improvement of his competitive career.
The result continues an impressive run at the international level. Tyrrell represented Guyana at the 2023 IPF World Men's Junior and Sub-Junior Classic Championships in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where he won the silver medal in the deadlift. At the 2024 IPF World Men's Classic Open Championships in Lithuania, he claimed bronze in the deadlift with 342.5kg and placed sixth overall. He returned to the World Classic Open Championships in Germany in 2025, finishing ninth among forty-two competitors in the men's 83kg division. A former national champion in the 74kg class, Tyrrell has set multiple Guyana national records across both weight categories during his career.
According to his father, Rev. Dr. Fitzroy Tyrrell, who provided the information, "His attention now turns to a qualifying competition in Geneva, Switzerland, this October. A strong performance there would secure qualification for a major international championship in 2027, with either the IPF World Classic Open Championships or the South American Championships remaining possible destinations. The final decision will depend on his form at the time. Should he believe he is capable of competing for a top-five finish at the World Championships, that will be the priority. Otherwise, the South American Championships provide a more practical competitive pathway."
Tyrrell's latest performance adds two more national records to an already distinguished career and reflects the steady progress he continues to make on the international stage.
