Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) has designated Bursa Malaysia as a Recognised Stock Exchange (RSE), a regulatory step that permits companies listed on the Malaysian main market to apply for secondary listings in Hong Kong.

The announcement, reported by The Sun, marks a formal expansion of the cross-border listing framework between the two Asian markets.

The RSE status simplifies the listing process for Malaysian issuers, allowing them to bypass certain primary listing requirements in Hong Kong.

This development aligns with HKEX's broader efforts to attract high-quality issuers from Southeast Asia, diversifying its listing base beyond mainland China and traditional Western markets.

For Malaysian companies, the pathway offers access to deeper liquidity and a wider pool of international investors without the full regulatory burden of a primary listing.

The move comes as HKEX continues to benefit from policy support in Beijing and a growing interest in regional capital markets.
