The Huon Gulf Development Authority has marked its commitment to improving education and uplifting rural communities by building two staff houses for two primary schools in Salamaua under its Teachers Housing Scheme.
Lakala Lutheran Primary School in Laukanu was a recipient of one of the staff houses.
He said lasting development begins from the villages, where empowered communities and strong partnerships create sustainable progress for future generations.
Huon Gulf MP Jason Peter said the district's Teachers Housing Scheme has become an icon for education services in the district.
There are 66 primary schools across Huon Gulf and under this Scheme, 52 houses have been built with another 14 to be built so each school gets a staff houses each.
"This Scheme is ongoing and is aimed at improving teacher welfare to encourage teachers to serve in the rural schools," Mr Peter said.
Lababia Primary School was also another recipient of a staff house.under the HGD-DDA Teachers Housing Scheme.
Mr Peter reaffirmed that investing in quality teacher accommodation, strengthening education infrastructure and supporting families through practical community development initiatives remain central to his vision for Huon Gulf.
He said that these programs form part of his Bottom-Up Planning (BUP) Initiative, a people-centred development approach that ensures community priorities are identified from the grassroots and translated into practical government investment.
Mr Peter said his vision is for Huon Gulf District to become the "Morning Star" among all districts in Morobe Province and throughout Papua New Guinea by demonstrating excellence in education, infrastructure, community development and effective service delivery.
