India’s tractor industry is set for a sharp deceleration in volume growth next fiscal year, with credit rating agency ICRA projecting expansion of just 1-4% in FY27.

This marks a significant slowdown from the 23.5% growth recorded in the previous fiscal year, driven by a combination of a high comparative base and deteriorating weather prospects.

The primary headwind is the forecast for a below-normal monsoon, which threatens to dampen farmer sentiment and delay capital expenditure on agricultural machinery.

Despite the expected volume contraction, ICRA notes that original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are likely to maintain healthy margins, supported by pricing power and cost efficiencies.

The downgrade in growth expectations adds to the cautious tone surrounding India’s rural economy.

While the information technology sector faces its own structural headwinds, the agricultural machinery segment is now grappling with cyclical weather risks that could persist through the planting season.
