India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed its first indigenous expendable turbojet engine with a thrust class of 350 kg.
The engine, designed by the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), was formally handed over to DRDO leadership, marking a significant step in the country's domestic aerospace capabilities.
The handover ceremony was attended by key officials, including Distinguished Scientist and Director General (Aeronautical Systems) K Rajalakshmi Menon and Outstanding Scientist and Director of GTRE, SV Ramanamurty.
Azad Engineering CEO Rakesh Chopdar also participated in the event, highlighting the collaboration between state research bodies and private industry in advancing defense technology.
This development aligns with India's broader strategy to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers for critical defense components.
The successful creation of an indigenous turbojet engine enhances the nation's ability to produce advanced missile systems and unmanned aerial vehicles domestically.
