The Aluminium Association of India (AAI) has formally urged the Ministries of Finance and Mines to intervene against the influx of low-grade aluminium scrap into the country.
The industry body warned that without stricter controls, India risks becoming a dumping ground for substandard recycled metal, which could compromise the quality of domestic production and destabilize local markets.
The association’s statement highlights growing concerns over the integrity of the secondary aluminium supply chain.
Low-grade scrap often contains impurities that degrade the performance of final products, forcing manufacturers to incur higher processing costs or face quality failures.
By calling for regulatory action, the AAI is seeking to protect the competitiveness of Indian aluminium producers who rely on consistent raw material standards.
This appeal comes amid a broader backdrop of trade policy scrutiny in India.
