Indian banks will be required to publish the interest rates they offer on bulk deposits on a daily basis, starting October 1, 2026.

The new mandate aims to bring greater uniformity and transparency to a segment of the banking market that has historically operated with limited public visibility.

Under the updated guidelines, lenders will also retain the freedom to offer differential interest rates on these large-value deposits.

This means that while the baseline rates must be publicly disclosed, banks can still negotiate specific terms with individual clients based on their relationship or other factors.

The move addresses long-standing concerns about information asymmetry in the Indian banking sector.

Bulk deposits, which typically involve large sums placed by institutional or high-net-worth investors, have often been priced behind closed doors.
