Indonesia is set to issue US$1 billion in Panda Bonds on Thursday, July 23, following the award of a AAA credit rating with a stable outlook by China Lianhe Rating Co., Ltd. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa confirmed the expanded target, signaling strong confidence in the reception from mainland Chinese investors.

The issuance represents a significant step in Jakarta’s strategy to broaden its investor base and reduce reliance on Western capital markets.

The move comes as the Panda Bond market gains traction among emerging-market sovereigns seeking alternative funding sources.

By securing a top-tier rating from a domestic Chinese agency, Indonesia positions itself to attract institutional buyers who are increasingly looking for high-quality, renminbi-denominated assets.

The government expects the offering to be well-subscribed, reflecting the growing appetite for sovereign debt in the region.

This issuance aligns with a broader trend of diversification in sovereign borrowing.
