Indonesia’s National Gold Bank has accumulated 153 tonnes of gold just one year after its launch in February 2025, marking a significant uptake in the state-backed bullion savings scheme.
The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs confirmed the figure, highlighting the rapid adoption of the platform designed to democratize gold investment for retail and institutional participants alike.
The bullion service is jointly operated by state-owned pawnshop operator PT Pegadaian and PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI).
The partnership leverages Pegadaian’s extensive physical network and BSI’s digital banking infrastructure to facilitate gold purchases, storage, and liquidity.
Ferry Irawan, Deputy for Coordination of State-Owned Enterprise Management and Development at the Coordinating Ministry, cited the 153-tonne total as evidence of growing confidence in domestic gold savings vehicles.
This accumulation occurs against a backdrop of sustained global central bank buying, with official reserves worldwide holding approximately 36,000 tonnes of gold.
