Intel has announced a €5 billion investment to expand its semiconductor manufacturing facility in Leixlip, County Kildare, Ireland.

The US chipmaker stated on Monday that the capital expenditure is driven by high demand stemming from the artificial intelligence boom.

The expansion is expected to support the creation of several hundred new jobs at the site.

The move underscores the continued geographic diversification of semiconductor manufacturing capacity in Europe.

While the US and Asia remain dominant hubs, major foundries and fabless companies are increasingly securing capacity in the EU to mitigate supply chain risks and align with regional subsidy frameworks.

Intel’s commitment adds to a growing list of significant semiconductor investments on the continent, following recent facility openings by peers such as Infineon Technologies.
