Iraq has moved into the execution phase of the Basra-Haditha crude oil pipeline, with manufacturing of the project’s pipes now underway.

The development marks a concrete step forward for the infrastructure initiative, which aims to create a north-south transport corridor for Iraqi crude, reducing reliance on traditional southern export terminals.

The pipeline’s advancement aligns with broader efforts by Iraq to modernize its export infrastructure and attract international investment.

The project is part of a strategic push to enhance logistical flexibility, potentially allowing Iraqi oil to reach alternative markets or transit points, thereby mitigating risks associated with regional shipping disruptions.

This operational progress follows recent high-level approvals by the Iraqi cabinet for preliminary agreements involving the Basra Oil Company.

The state-run entity is partnering with a consortium led by US energy major Chevron, alongside Capital TI and Qatar’s UCC, to study and develop strategic oil export pipeline projects.
