The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched a redesigned version of its ticket-booking website, aiming to improve performance and increase booking capacity for passengers.

The upgrade, which went live on July 15, is designed to deliver faster page loads and handle higher traffic volumes, addressing longstanding concerns about system stability during peak booking windows.

The move comes as digital infrastructure becomes increasingly critical for India's state-linked enterprises.

IRCTC, which holds a monopoly on online railway ticketing in India, has faced periodic criticism for website crashes and slow response times during high-demand periods such as festival seasons and holiday travel.

The new platform is expected to mitigate these issues by optimizing server load distribution and streamlining the user interface.

This development follows a broader trend of digital modernization across Indian public sector undertakings.
