Motorists in Jamaica face higher fuel costs starting Thursday, July 29, as state-owned refinery Petrojam announced an increase in ex-refinery prices for gasoline and diesel.
The adjustment reflects ongoing upward pressure on local energy costs, with gasoline prices rising by $0.47 per liter and diesel seeing a more significant jump of $6 per liter.
The new pricing sets 90-octane gasoline at $213.72 per liter.
This move adds to the financial burden on consumers and transport operators in the Caribbean nation, which has seen a series of energy price escalations in recent weeks.
The increase is driven by higher input costs passed through from the refinery level to retail stations.
This development follows a recent surge in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices, marking the second increase in two weeks for that commodity.
