Malaysia has deployed the KM Bendahara, its latest offshore patrol vessel, to the South China Sea.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) stated that the addition to its fleet is intended to strengthen enforcement, surveillance, and operational readiness in the region.
The vessel is based in Sabah, positioning it to monitor key shipping lanes and contested waters more effectively.
The deployment underscores Kuala Lumpur’s ongoing efforts to bolster its maritime domain awareness.
This move follows previous initiatives to enhance surveillance capabilities, including the installation of long-range radar systems at Swallow Reef and the launch of new drone operations from Labuan.
These measures aim to improve monitoring of foreign vessels and protect Malaysia’s exclusive economic zone.
