Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu held talks with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at Lusail Palace in Doha on Monday.

The meeting took place during President Muizzu's official visit to the Gulf state, which was primarily aimed at extending condolences to the Qatari royal family following the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani at age 74.

The diplomatic engagement underscores the Maldives' ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral relations with key Gulf partners.

President Muizzu's visit coincides with a broader wave of regional diplomacy, as leaders from neighboring countries converge in Doha to honor the late former Emir.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also arrived in the Qatari capital for a one-day visit to extend similar condolences, accompanied by senior political figures.

In a gesture of mourning, the Maldives government ordered its national flag to be flown at half-mast for one day.
