Motorists in Moldova face higher fuel costs starting this weekend, as the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) approved new maximum prices that push both gasoline and diesel above the 30 lei per litre mark.

The adjustment, effective from July 25 to July 27, reflects rising wholesale input costs and aligns with a broader regional trend of increasing pump prices.

The move in Moldova follows similar price hikes in neighboring markets.

Hungarian motorists recently faced significant increases in fuel costs as wholesale prices for gasoline and diesel rose sharply, while premium diesel prices at Romanian filling stations have surpassed the psychological threshold of 10 lei per litre, marking new highs for the Balkan market.

These developments suggest that regional supply dynamics and wholesale market pressures are driving retail price adjustments across Eastern Europe.

Brent crude prices have retreated to pre-war lows as shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz normalize, yet the transmission of costs to retail markets remains uneven.
