Morgan Stanley's infrastructure investment arm has agreed to acquire Epic Energy, a South Australian gas pipeline operator, for $1 billion.

The deal, reported by the Australian Financial Review, adds critical energy infrastructure to the bank's growing portfolio in the region.

Epic Energy owns key gas pipeline assets in South Australia and has developed a 154-megawatt green hydrogen facility.

The acquisition underscores the strategic shift toward energy transition infrastructure, blending traditional gas networks with emerging hydrogen production capabilities.

For investors, the move highlights the premium placed on assets that can bridge current energy security needs with long-term decarbonization goals.

This transaction represents Morgan Stanley's third infrastructure investment in Australia, following previous deals that have established the bank as a significant player in the country's energy sector.
