The Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) is advancing plans for significant infrastructure expansion, including new crude oil jetties, petroleum product berths, and specialized cargo terminals.
The authority is also examining proposals for an LNG bunkering facility and expanded automobile storage capabilities to handle growing trade volumes.
MbPA Chairperson M Angamuthu confirmed that the expansion proposals are based on internal studies aimed at increasing the port's overall cargo handling capacity.
The move follows a record-breaking fiscal year 2026 for the port, which saw throughput reach historic highs.
The authority is now focusing on diversifying its infrastructure to accommodate energy logistics and specialized cargo more efficiently.
The development underscores India's push to strengthen its maritime infrastructure amid rising energy import needs and complex global shipping dynamics.
