Gold trading businesses in Myanmar’s Yangon region must now renew their service licences six months before expiry, according to the Yangon Region Gold Entrepreneurs Association.
The updated requirement imposes a stricter timeline on dealers, who previously operated under less rigid renewal windows.
Applicants are also required to submit updated documentation during the renewal process, though specific details on the new paperwork remain unclear.
The move comes as regulatory scrutiny intensifies across Asia’s precious metals sector.
In a parallel development, Guinea recently enacted an immediate ban on raw gold exports, mandating domestic processing before international shipment.
These divergent policy approaches highlight the growing complexity of compliance for traders operating in emerging markets.
