A NATO Boeing E-3A Sentry airborne early warning and control aircraft was observed circling over the Gulf of Riga in Latvian airspace on Tuesday.

The presence of the surveillance plane signals continued vigilance by the alliance in the Baltic region amid ongoing geopolitical friction.

The flight comes shortly after NATO fighter jets were scrambled four times last week to intercept Russian aircraft that violated flight rules over the Baltic states, according to Lithuania's Ministry of National Defence.

The intercepts highlight the persistent pressure on NATO's eastern flank and the alliance's readiness to monitor and respond to unauthorized aerial activity.

This development follows a similar reconnaissance operation earlier in the week, when a Bombardier Challenger 650 Artemis II intelligence aircraft conducted a flight over the Baltic countries and along Estonia’s coast in the Gulf of Finland.

The sequence of surveillance missions underscores NATO's focus on maintaining situational awareness in the region.
