Niger has created the Mazumawa National Gold Company (MNGC) as part of a broader national refoundation policy under President Abdourahamane Tiani.

The new state-owned entity is designed to centralize control over the country's gold resources, marking a significant shift in the West African nation's approach to its mining sector.

The establishment of MNGC signals a move toward greater state involvement in gold production, aligning with a growing trend of resource nationalism across the continent.

This development comes as several African nations seek to capture more value from their mineral wealth and reduce reliance on foreign operators.

The move mirrors recent actions by other African producers.

Zimbabwe's state-owned Mutapa Gold Resources has been expanding its exploration efforts within existing concessions, while Ghana continues to grapple with the balance between formal mining operations and informal sector activities.
