The Nigerian Federal Government has approved N46 billion for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the primary and secondary runways at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).

The funding targets critical infrastructure upgrades at the northern hub, aiming to restore operational capacity and safety standards at one of the country's busiest aviation facilities.

The approval signals a continued push by the federal executive to address deteriorating public infrastructure through targeted capital expenditure.

This investment follows a broader pattern of infrastructure spending, including a recent N286 billion allocation for maritime safety and port modernization, as well as N30 billion earmarked for emergency repairs to the Eko Bridge in Lagos.

For investors and contractors, the runway project represents a direct injection of capital into the construction and aviation maintenance sectors.

The rehabilitation work is expected to involve specialized engineering firms and suppliers of aviation-grade materials, providing near-term revenue opportunities for companies with exposure to Nigerian infrastructure projects.
